Franz Xaver MEILLER
Fahrzeug- und Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG
World market leader for tipper bodies, tipper trailers and elevator doors for passenger and freight elevators
The MEILLER Group is a long-established Munich-based family business and is known worldwide as the market leader in the development, manufacture and sale of tipper bodies and tipper trailers for the construction and waste disposal industry. The name MEILLER also stands for the manufacture and sale of high-quality elevator doors for passenger and goods elevators.
The close cooperation between MEILLER and all major vehicle manufacturers ensures optimum interaction between the vehicle chassis and body. This is made possible by state-of-the-art data transfers in technology and logistics, which enable short reaction times in the exchange with the truck manufacturers.
Just the beginning: consolidation project for the archive solutions
At the end of 2015, the MEILLER Group’s IT department was faced with the question of how to efficiently expand the storage space for the archiving systems used for email and SAP, which was running out. When analyzing the overall situation, it became clear that consolidating the storage systems was obviously only one aspect of the actual problem. There was a high level of dissatisfaction in the specialist departments with the functional scope of the email and SAP archiving solutions used to date.
In addition to the lack of features, high operating costs and the associated maintenance costs for two separate archive systems were criticized.
Against this backdrop, the consultants at dataglobal suggested introducing a cross-company, economically attractive and future-oriented overall solution that, in addition to a modern archiving solution, would also meet the increasing requirements of the digital transformation. Together with partner DELL, a long-standing partner of dataglobal in the infrastructure sector, a solution tailored to MEILLER was implemented
Originally planned purely from a compliance and infrastructure perspective, company-wide archiving has now become an essential foundation for the optimization and digitalization of MEILLER’s business processes.
Introduction of dataglobal CS as a central solution for content services, digital workplace and archiving
The requirements of the MEILLER Group were summarized conceptually and implemented accordingly. The cost-intensive archiving silos were replaced in favor of dataglobal Content Services as a central solution for all archiving requirements. The introduction of dataglobal E-Mail Management and dataglobal SAP Archiving not only led to a significant reduction in system and maintenance costs, it also equips MEILLER for the future, as the solution can be scaled as required at any time and expanded very flexibly to include additional applications to be archived.

Compliance-compliant migration of archived legacy data
A key part of the concept was the migration of the emails already archived with CommVault and the SAP data archived with OpenText. It was crucial that not only the existing legal framework conditions were fully taken into account, but also that the migration had no impact on ongoing operations.
Data classification and search options
The MEILLER IT expert panel was particularly impressed by the content classification of the data and the resulting possibilities for further processing. The users were also impressed by the company-wide full-text search, which includes e-mail attachments. Valuable company data can now be integrated, linked and prepared and made available for workflows and digital processes with dataglobal CS.
In addition, the Exchange server was relieved by reducing the database size by 40%. This is made possible in the course of archiving by replacing the original emails and attachments with link objects on the Exchange server. The resulting optimization of the data backup volume is another positive effect of this function. The elimination of duplicate archiving operations has resulted in a drastic reduction in support and maintenance costs.
Digital order file for
order data management
But that was not all: to support order processing outside of pure SAP document archiving, an order file linked to SAP was required. In the next step, MEILLER went live with a dataglobal SAP archiving feature that enables the specialist departments to display archived SAP documents in files according to their content – regardless of whether they are SAP or non-SAP documents.
The digital order file is automatically generated when an order is created in SAP and linked to the SAP document. Paper documents and, above all, electronic documents from various input channels are brought together in a very simple and intuitive way at a central location in dataglobal CS. Documents generated by SAP, such as invoices, order confirmations, credit notes, etc., are automatically linked to the relevant file in dataglobal CS and to the appropriate location. Relevant e-mail communication is automatically inserted into the corresponding file. All authorized persons have easy and complete access to all relevant documents for a specific order from anywhere.
Users from the various departments – commercial department, merchandise management, production – store order-related information, such as paper documents, e-mails, faxes, Office files or drawings, directly in the order file simply by drag-and-drop or via an Office interface.

Central solution with a future
The digitalization of order data management at MEILLER leads to fast and secure order processing as well as simple and intuitive collaboration in the dataglobal Digital Workplace, which enables maximum flexible access via the web, mobile or desktop. All receipts and order-related paper documents from the SAP system are also archived company-wide, automatically and in a legally compliant manner.
The company-wide archiving project, originally planned purely from a compliance and infrastructure perspective, has now become an essential foundation for the optimization and digitalization of MEILLER’s business processes.
